In my previous post Nailing It I gave instructions and a video showing how to apply press-on nails. Mastering the application of press-on nails is just one step in the journey. From my years of experience with press-on nails, I’ve learned that you’ll have a different experience with certain nail styles.
The longer the faux nail the more likely it is to come off. It’s will easily snag on items and over time it will weaken the press-on nail. It can break off your natural nail or the faux nail can break in half.
Choose a nail length that corresponds with your activity level. For example, on my birthday I had a long coffin-shaped manicure covered in rhinestones. I decided to go snorkeling that weekend and after the excursion was over, I noticed I was missing two faux nails. If you’re planning on doing physical activities that maybe bring stress onto your nails like volleyball or boxing then choose a short or medium length faux nail. Long nails are suitable for regular gym activity though!
Do expect nail designs with rhinestone and holographic foils to wear off the faux nail with regular everyday activities like washing your hands. From my experience, these types of elements can last up to 10 days. But depending on the specific design on the press-on nail it may not be noticeable or affect the overall look of the manicure.
When wearing press-on nails I always keep nail glue on me just in case my nail does come off. I keep nail glue at my desk at work and in my purse when going on a crazy night out with my girls. Trust me this will save you in times when you least expect it.
Lastly, when it comes to the quality of press-on nails you get what you pay for. You can purchase faux nails at drug stores from and local beauty stores but in my experience the cheaper the faux nails the weaker the quality and the shorter it will last on your nails.
I hope all these tips and tricks about press-on nails will guide you in exploring different types of press-on nails and avoid making annoying and sometimes embarrassing nail decisions. If you have any questions or tips of your own please leave a comment.
