Coconut Oil Beauty Hacks You Have To Try Now

Does anyone remember life before coconut oil? I used to have a dresser covered with several products that serviced different parts of my body. Since my introduction to the all mighty powerful fruit oil, I’ve been able to declutter my countertops and my body with chemical-filled products of yesteryear. Discover some of my favorite coconut oil beauty hacks that you can add to your beauty regime.

Hair

I use coconut oil as a panacea for ALL my hair and scalp issues. I’ve been using coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner right after washing my hair since I was 15. The oil helps trap in moisture which leaves my 4B coiled tresses full of bounce and shine. I also mix coconut oil and tea tree oil in a bottle with a nozzle tip and apply the combination directly to my scalp. This helps to minimize dandruff and to soothe an itchy head. This is especially helpful when I need to hydrate my scalp when I’m wearing my hair in braids or under a wig cap.

Face & Lip Scrub

This is my favorite coconut oil hack because it super easy to make and a perfect way to pamper yourself. Add some sugar (white or brown) to a small jar of coconut oil and exfoliate your stress away. Including some drops of lavender essential oil can intensify the relaxing sensation. If you want to create a mask add some honey to thicken up the previous mixture. After 10-20 minutes, I rinse off my face and run to the mirror to enjoy my smooth and radiate skin. Shamelessly I admit this is the perfect time to take some selfies.

Tooth & Mouth Health

This coconut oil beauty hack may surprise you but it works. Amongst its many attributes, coconut oil also has antifungal and antibacterial properties. When mixed with baking soda it creates a whiting toothpaste. I normally dip my toothbrush in a small jar of coconut oil and use baking soda-based toothpaste like Arm and Hammer to brush my teeth. After several months of using this combination, I’ve noticed a gradual brightness of my teeth. I even had to let my dentist in on my little secret after a recent cleaning when she was in awe I had barely any plaque on my teeth.

If you’re feeling even more adventurous you might want to try oil pulling. If you haven’t heard of this it is essential gargling with coconut oil for 20-30 minutes. The benefits of oil pulling are reducing the number of gems in your mouth which can lead to healthier gums, fresher breath, and whiter teeth.

Shaving Cream

Now, this coconut oil beauty hacks I was excited about! Since my skin is super sensitive there are only a few products I feel comfortable using to shave. Lather some coconut oil on the area you want to shave while in the shower. The slipperiness of the coconut oil will aid your razor in gliding across your skin. When you’re all done your skin will be left smooth and soft.

Primer & Highlighter

Many actresses and models use coconut oil as a primer before applying foundation to their face to gives a glowy and dewy effect. Coconut oil can also be used to hydrate your face before putting on highlighter to get similar results. I use this hack every time before applying any type of makeup product to my face and the results don’t disappoint.

Want a similar glowy effect for the rest of your body? Coconut oil not only is an amazing body moisturizer but slathering it on your legs and body will leave you glistening like a model on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Makeup Removal

If you are just as forgetful as I am you always leave the drugstore without buying makeup remover. Luckily coconut oil melts away even waterproof makeup. Dab a cotton ball or a towelette with coconut oil and effortlessly wipe away your makeup just as you would with a makeup removal wipe.

Cuticles

If you suffer from cracked peeling cuticles coconut oil may be the solution to your problems. Massaging coconut oil to the base of your nails can be one of the best things you can do to help your manicure last longer and keep your cuticles neat and clean.
